Hello there, Iβm Dora.
My journey as an artist is rooted in the serene landscapes of the Pacific Northwest (PNW), but my story began in Wyoming, a world steeped in a variety of artistic expressions. Born in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains, I have always been enamored with the diverse materials and mediums available for artistic expression. It was in this rugged environment that I first learned the art of painting, block printing, soap stone carvings and various other techniques that fueled my insatiable curiosity and fostered a relentless desire to narrate my perception of the world through my own creative process.
However, it wasn't until I first grappled with clay that I truly found my artistic calling. There was something mesmerizing, something incredibly tactile about this medium. As soon as my fingers grazed over the clay, I experienced an immediate and profound connection. I was captivated by the potential it held - a blank canvas, malleable, ready to be shaped and textured according to my whim and imagination. It was as if clay held within it the same ruggedness, rawness, and flexibility that the Western landscapes had instilled within me.
Having now established my own studio within my home in the PNW, naturally my art has begun to echo the enchanted charm of my surroundings. My work exudes the kind of innocent fascination we often associate with the realm of fairy tales and folklore. I draw inspiration from the wilderness that cradles my home; an untamed forest, teeming with intricate details, from tiny acorns to fuzzy caterpillars, waiting to be discovered.
My artworks are my way of storytelling. I aim to capture the stories that the chirping birds and rustling leaves whisper in my ears. Each tiny detail is an opportunity for me to give voice to the silent narratives of the ungovernable forest, to channel my love for nature into the tangible form of ceramics.
In essence, my work is a love letter to the natural world.
